Every round starts with two islands: a source with power and nowhere to send it, a goal with demand and no way to receive it. Nothing on the board matters until one path closes that gap. The instant either AI's wire touches the center node, isolation ends immediately — not gradually. That's what real connectivity looks like: the moment you're actually reachable, not the number of wires sitting nearby unused.
Obstacles force detours, and the AI that survives them isn't the one with the longest wire — it's the one that keeps finding another way through. A network's value isn't how many connections it has, it's how well those connections route around trouble when the direct one is blocked. The same is true of the people you know: fewer strong ties that can flex under pressure will carry you further than a large list of contacts who can't.
Each extra step in a path is a chance to get lost, backtrack, or waste effort that could've gone toward the goal. Over many rounds, both AIs improve — not because the board gets easier, but because they remember what worked last time and trust the direct route sooner. It's the same with people: the plain, direct message beats the clever, roundabout one almost every time. Say the thing you mean. Send the connection straight through.
